Forthcoming Projects include 2 five day film challenges we're delivering during the school holidays on behalf of Bolton Council and a video consultation piece for Bolton at Home at the new Malton Avenue (Deane) Community Garden.
Breightmet UCAN asked us to produce a short film asking local residents One Question- 'What do they like about Breightmet?'
thebox.tv supported the young people of the Bridges Saturday Club in filming a drama about how it feels to be a new member of the group. We were commissioned by Sharon Bates the SEN Disability development & support officer and the project was part funded by money fundraised by the young people themselves and also by 'Activites 4 Me' and Arts Development (both BMBC). 'The Saturdays' is currently in post production and will be on the site soon.
Bolton NHS and the Bolton CVS Community Engagement Team commissioned thebox.tv to edit a film they'd shot looking at local people s attitudes to Alcohol. 'Sobering Thoughts' is a 25 min film designed to be used in conjunction with workshops created and delivered by the Community Engagement Team. Great Lever Youth Involvement team applied to the Youth Opportunities fund to work with us again. This time the subject was Climate Change, the film looked at ways local people are doing their bit to combat global warming and create a greener and healthier Bolton. The filming is ongoing.
The Leverhulme Residents commissioned us to do another project with local children. This time the group made a longer film 'Never Say Freak', a comic horror exploring the ideas of 'otherness' and bullying. Part 1 and Part 2 can be found on the videos page.
We were asked back to Thornleigh to work with two groups of year 8 students from the intervention centre. Each group produced a film over 5 two hour sessions; 'A Matter of Choice' and 'Class Wars'. You can view them on the site.
thebox.tv is working with Great Lever Youth involvement team on a marketing and podcasting project. They have previously made a great film in conjunction with Activ8 and a local film company, called 'Journey Home' about the issues facing a pair of young refugees on their arrival in Bolton, and we would encourage everyone to see it if they get the chance. Hopefully it will be up on the site asap.
In the spring thebox.tv ran a 5 week project with a group of Year 9 boys from Thornleigh Salesian College. The boys wanted to make a film showing that fishing could be a great way of relieving stress and anger and could be used as a strategy for escaping exclusion. Adam Gallagher came up with the brilliant title, 'The Bait Escape'. thebox.tv is now back at Thornleigh School running a new film making project with Year 8 children. The subjects these groups want to explore include bullying, and the consequences of Kids taking over the school!
thebox.tv will be running a video consultation with young people in the Deane/Rumworth area of Bolton over the next few weeks, discovering what youth provision there is in the area and what other activities the young people would like to see.
Pixellate is a project run by Lets Go Global (Trafford) designed to create and strengthen digital media provison across all the boroughs of Greater Manchester. thebox.tv is facilitating the project in Bolton supported and funded by AGMA , Bolton council and Find Your Talent. We are running the project at Youthopia, a youth centre in Johnson Fold with a group of young people aged 11-16. The young people have created a tongue in cheek film looking at the dangers related to over reliance on computers, which they are designing, filming and editing with our support. They have received training in all the equipment and have been supported by an experienced Drama worker alongside thebox.tv's crew.
The Moviebox project is run by thebox.tv with funding from Awards For All (Lottery). It works with a group of young people from across Bolton who are supported by the councils Youth Inclusion team. The first 12 week group have developed a short film relating to Knife Crime and alongside the recreation of a mugging designed by the young people, they also share their thoughts and feelings on this topical subject. Again the film is shot by and the equipment used by, the young people themselves. The second 12 week course will be starting in mid November and will be based on the Willows estate in Deane.
thebox.tv is a supporting organisation of the Learningrevolution4Bolton, a 6 month project run by Bolton Adult Literacy Trust in conjunction with the Government's Transformation bid. During the Festival, thebox.tv will be filming a variety of the informal learning events being held, including running a film making session on Fri 23rd October at the Family Learning Centre in Great Lever. (1 - 2.30pm)
During the rest of the 6 month project thebox.tv will be filming live broadcasts from examples of informal learning across the borough.
Alongside the development of the studio space, we are also hoping to develop a young person led film crew to record a variety of local events and occasions. If you are interested in becoming involved with the film crew or would like them to record your event then please contact us.
